The Michigan Master Logger Certification Program recognizes logging companies that meet the sustainable forest management standards set by the American Loggers Council in the 1990s. The Master Logger program assesses and documents the harvest practices that loggers use in the forest, and ensures that professional loggers are rewarded for their good work.
​
The Michigan Association of Timbermen serves as the oversight body for the Michigan Master Logger Certification Program. MAT entered into a contract in 2023 with Sustainable Resources Institute of Crystal Falls, Michigan and VanOss Forestry of Crystal Falls, Michigan to conduct overall administration and programming.
