Insurance: Built by and for the Forest Products Industry

Choosing the right insurance isn’t just about coverage—it’s about trust, industry understanding, and long-term value. That’s why the Michigan Association of Timbermen helped establish a unique insurance network tailored specifically to the needs of the timber and forest products community.

In 1991, TIMSER, Inc.—a holding company created by the Association—founded Forest Insurance Center Agency, Inc., which remains fully owned by TIMSER and, in turn, by our members. Over the years, this network has grown through strategic acquisitions, including Mauck Insurance Agency, and Loggers Insurance Agency, to form a strong and reliable foundation for member-focused insurance services.

What sets our insurance offerings apart is simple: they’re owned and governed by people in the industry. Unlike traditional agencies, our insurance entities—Forest, Loggers, and Mauck—return profits under the guidance of a board of directors made up of forest products professionals. That means more resources are reinvested back into the industry, helping lower costs, improve coverage, and support the long-term success of your business.

With decades of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by timber businesses, our insurance programs offer coverage you can count on—from general liability to specialized logging and hauling policies—all while keeping control and benefits in the hands of those who know the work best. MAT & MATSIF: Strong Roots, Shared Commitment

The Michigan Association of Timbermen (MAT) and the Michigan Association of Timbermen Self-Insurance Fund (MATSIF) were founded with a common mission—to support the success and safety of Michigan’s wood products industry. While MAT and MATSIF operate as separate entities today, we continue to work closely together to promote and support MATSIF as the trusted workers’ compensation solution for our members.

With over 45 years of experience, MATSIF is a nationally recognized group self-insurance fund, focused solely on providing cost-saving, safety-first workers’ comp programs for timber and wood products businesses. Membership means more than just coverage—it means joining a group committed to safe, profitable operations across the industry.
