$500 AVAILABLE FOR MICHIGAN LOGGERS

ree

Dear Forestry Professional,

We’re excited to introduce a new program that supports responsible logging practices

while helping protect Michigan’s clean water-Master Loggers for Clean Water. This

initiative is funded by the USDA Forest Service and aims to encourage sustainable

timber harvesting across the state.

What Is the Program About?

Logging can be done in ways that protect streams, wetlands, and other water

resources. The Michigan Master Logger program certifies logging professionals who

meet high standards in safety, business practices, and environmental care-including

how they manage water on logging sites.

To support this work, we are offering $500 in financial assistance to help cover the

time and costs for loggers who complete an on-site audit-a professional review of their

logging work in the field.

Who Can Apply for This Support?

You may be eligible if:

  • You are already a certified Michigan Master Logger or currently applying to

become one;

  • You are undergoing a certification or recertification audit;

  • Your logging site includes a water feature (such as a stream, creek, or wetland)

and you are following Michigan’s Best Management Practices (BMPs)-a set of

guidelines designed to protect the environment during logging.

This funding is available for current timber sales that meet these conditions.

Why This Matters

Sustainable forestry helps ensure that Michigan’s forests remain healthy for future

generations, while also protecting the water we all depend on. This program is a way to

recognize the professionals who take that responsibility seriously.

If you think you or someone you know might qualify, we encourage you to get in touch.

We're happy to answer your questions and help determine eligibility.

Thank you for your dedication to doing the job right for the forest, for the water, and for

Michigan’s future.
